Afghanistan wicketkeeper batsman Shafiqullah Shafak banned for this year

Afghanistan wicketkeeper batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq has been banned for six years on charges of corruption.

Shafak has been banned for his involvement in corruption-related activities while playing for the Afghanistan Premeire League in 2018, the Nangarh Leppards in 2018 and the Bangladesh Premier League in 2019. He has been banned for playing all formats.

Shafaq admitted all the charges
Shafiqullah Shafaq has admitted all four allegations of breaking the Anti-Code of Conduct of Afghanistan Board imposed on him. The board said in the statement, “Shafaq was charged with violation of Article 2.1.1 which is related to fixing or in any way joining or improperly influencing, or being a party to an agreement.” It also involves deliberately performing recklessly. In addition, Shafaq was charged with violation of Article 2.1.3 and two other charges.

Had a double century in 2018

Shafiqullah came into the limelight in the year 2018 when he hit just 89 balls double century. He did an amazing double century in the domestic T20 tournament Nangarhar Champion Trophy. His name FirstClass also holds the record for the fastest double century. He scored a double century off 89 balls. The thirty-year-old Shafak has played 24 ODIs and 46 T20 matches for Afghanistan. Their last match was T20 which they had against Bangladesh in September 2019.
