Eight people injured, one missing after explosion at Ohio paint plant


The explosion and second-alarm fire at an Ohio paint plant early in the morning injured eight people and left one person unconscious.

Officials said that around 40 employees were working after midnight.

According to Steve Martin, Chief of the Columbus Division of Fire Battalion, most of the personnel came out of the building as fire officials arrived at the scene.

He said he was eventually rescued and taken to the Ohio State University Hospital with serious injuries. Six others were stable.

“Another person was still missing while the crew” ran through all of the building, the fire department said in a statement. “

The other four buildings in the paint plant’s premises were empty at the time of the explosion and fire. The facility is in an industrial area.

The explosion and the exact cause of the explosion are under investigation, but the building contained a lot of chemicals, Martin said.
