Jacob Blake thought he told his children that he loved them one last time

Jacob Blake, a black man shot seven times by a Kenosha police officer, said he believed he was about to die and wondered what his last words would be to his children after the August shooting.

Blake, 29, was partially paralyzed in an Aug. 23 shooting that touched off days of protests and unrest in Wisconsin City and elsewhere.

“I’m kind of lame,” Blake told ABC’s “Good Morning America” in an interview on Thursday. “And I remember thinking that I was bent that way when I saw my boy. I said, ‘Daddy loves you, never mind.”

“I thought it was going to be the last – I felt that this was the last thing I would say to them.” “Thank God it wasn’t.”

Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Gravely announced that a week later no police officer would charge into the shooting.

Blake was shot seven times by Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheski. Some of those shots were found to be from behind.

Authorities said Sisak was responding to a domestic disturbance at the time and officers were told that there was a warrant for Blake’s arrest. The district attorney said Blake, armed with a knife, protested the arrest and did not order him to fall.

Gravy said Blake was shot after moving towards a “disputed car” that had at least one child. He said Blake confessed to investigators that he had a knife, but was not sure he would open it.

Gravelle said Sheski and other officials would have a strong case for self-defense, and that “if you don’t believe you can prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt, you have a moral obligation That you do not issue charges. “

The shooting was captured on video and sparked protests over the summer that turned violent at times as protesters called for racial justice and police reform.

Kenosha, Kyle Rittenhouse, now 18 years old, who went to Kenosha from nearby Antioch, Illinois, allegedly shot and killed two people. Rittenhouse has been charged with criminal charges and lawyers for him claimed to have acted in self-defense.

The Blake shooting followed the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police in May and the fatal police shooting of Bryo Taylor in Louisville in March.
