Sheldon Adelson, GOP Megadonor and Casino Magnet, Dies at 87

Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, one of the most powerful Republican donors and supporters of President Donald Trump, has died.

His wife, Dr. Mariam Adelson announced the news in a statement on Tuesday.

“Sheldon was the love of my life. He was my partner in romance, philanthropy, political activism and enterprise. He was my soul.”

“For me – as his own children, grandchildren, and his mentors of friends and admirers, staff and co-workers – he is completely irreplaceable.”

Doctor Mary Adelson, who was awarded Trump’s Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018, said her husband died of complications from a “prolonged illness”, but did not disclose details.

Sheldon Adelson, 87, was president and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
