Malayanam cinema director and screenwriter Naranipuzha Shanavas died in a hospital in Coimbatore on the morning of 23 December. This morning he was reportedly declared brain dead. His film Sufiyam Sujathiyam, starring Jayasuriya and Aditi Rao Hydari, was the first Malayalam film to hit the OTT platform. The filmmaker was rushed to the hospital after going into cardiogenic shock during the shooting of his upcoming film in Attapadi, Kerala.
The PRO of KG Hospital in Coimbatore told TNM, “He was brought here on Saturday night. He is in the ICU and is not stable yet. The doctors are monitoring him. The 40-year-old filmmaker was on ventilator support and had seen an improvement in health since he was admitted. The news of his death shocked everyone.
Naranipuzha Shanavas made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film titled Kari and it revolved around caste discrimination. Prior to making his directorial debut, he worked as an editor and short film producer. may his soul rest in peace.
