Sharat Chandra IAS Academy’s Arts and Humanities Department, Sharat Chandra Degree College and Sharat Chandra Junior College in Andhra Pradesh are named after Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who also appears in Telugu and other south films. The decision follows the actor’s philanthropic gestures especially during epidemic-induced lockdowns for students and migrant workers. Sonu shared: “I am extremely humble and grateful. I feel fortunate that I had the opportunity to get the help that was needed. And now that such a large institution has respected my work, I can only thank those I’ll be inspired to be there. Sonu had come up with a scholarship program some time ago, in honor of his mother, to IAS candidates to fulfill their dreams and reach their goals. He helped students from a village in Haryana participate in online classes by sending them smartphones. The actor also helped the JEE and NEET exam candidates to visit their examination centers.
