The decision to ban Churales faced stiff opposition from many Pakistani celebs who tagged the move as a major obstacle in the women’s empowerment movement. Apart from banning the show, the Pakistani government is now trying to block Zee5 membership and a bank letter related to the same is now going viral on the internet. The letter states that the government has directed the bank to stop all modes of payment for subscription to Indian content in Pakistan, including Zee’s video-on-demand service.

Churels director Aseem Abbasi had earlier expressed his disappointment over the show getting banned in a series of tweets. “How weird #Churails Can be praised internationally, and will now be discontinued in his native country. In the same country where hundreds of artists came together to create something that could initiate dialogue and open doors to new narratives, ”one of his tweets read.
